Marilyn Phillips Piano |
Marilyn Phillips' international career in music began in the Royal Academy of Music, where she was awarded the Ralph Vaughan Williams Scholarship for advanced studies in piano accompaniment. This prestigious start led to performances in the major Londong concert halls, Europe and the USA, with frequent BBC broadcasts.
In 1995, Marilyn was appointed head of Music with the West Australian Opera, working on over twenty five productions, including the Helpmann Award-winning Batavia. She has also received the Prime Minister's Centenary Medal for services to Australian Opera.
Under Marilyn's direction since 2006, the WASO Chorus has achieved growing national recognition and acclaim. She continues to broadcast on ABC Classic FM, with public master classes for singers and accompanists in Perth and Sydney, where in 2008, she was invited to be Artist in residence at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music.
Besides these major achievements, Marilyn has worked tirelessly to bring an understanding and love of music to a wider West Australian audience, most notably through her contribution to Art Song Perth, the hugely popular Big Sing in the Perth Concert Hall, and pre-concert talks for WASO.
